Giles Kevin, 93, of Clifton, NJ, passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023. Born on November 6, 1930 to loving parents Lillian and Donald Houghton in Teaneck NJ. He relocated at the age of four with his family to Somerville, SC. He returned to NJ at the age of 14. Upon graduation from grade school, he entered St Joseph's Seminary in Callicoon, NY, and was ordained a Franciscan Priest in 1956. Giles received a MA from St. Bonaventure University in 1958 and continued studying at The Catholic University in Washington D.C. where he was awarded his Doctorate in Philosophy in 1970. Always eager to share his knowledge he served as a professor at Sienna College in New York. In his 40's Giles left the priesthood and continued his education attending Fordham University in Lincoln Center, NY where he obtained his law degree in 1978.
Cherished husband of Angela (Pasqualicchio) Houghton of Clifton NJ, Dear brother of Patricia (Roger) Dunne of Myrtle Beach, SC and sisters in-law Fran Houghton of Rochelle Park, NJ and Lynn Houghton of Rochelle Park, NJ. Rosalie Pasqualicchio of Staten Island, NY, Debbie Pasqualicchio of Queens, NY. Beloved Godfather of Cathy Cote, and her husband Mike and their children Alex and Corinne and her father Richard Moscatel. Loving family friend of Richard Romeo.
Many nieces and nephews including Claire (Mike) Houghton-Kiel, Regina (Dan) Deible, Richard (Camille) Houghton, Christopher (Elizabeth) Houghton, Joe (Eileen) Houghton, Nancy (George) Forlifer, Susan Simon, Walter Houghton, Alicia (Joseph) Luick, Roger (Arpana) Dunne. Michael (Erica), Steven (Jessica), and Christy & Melissa Pasqualicchio.
Numerous grand nieces and nephews including Rachel (Lucus) Behrens, Torie (David), Jack & Sarah Deible, Bryan, Patrick & Caitrina Kiel, Madeline, Ricky and Katherine Houghton, Nathaniel, Timothy Giles & Evelyn Houghton, Austin & Aidan Houghton, Colton Dunne, Kristen (Justin) Lambert, Matthew & Brian (Jackie) Martin, Matthew William Jr. (Jamie) & Matthew (Gabriella) Simon, Jessica Mulikin, Ava, Isabella & Gabriella Pasqualicchio.
Great grand nieces and nephews including Walter, Riley, Raelynn, Taylor, Madisyn, Maverick, Connor, Addison and Emma
Many cousins including Mike (Maureen), Bruce (Sandy), Dennis & Chris (Debbie) Martin, Marlene (Bob) Schrieve, Doug (Candace) & Chuck (Betsy) Hughes, Alfred (Judy) Somma and Ralph (Joanne) Spinato.
Predeceased by his brothers Richard and Walter John Houghton and brothers in-law Ralph Pasqualicchio and Joseph Buatta, great uncle Justin Martin and Angela's best friend Carol Moscatel.
Before retiring Giles had a long and accomplished career in law. It began with the law firm of Davis, Saperstein & Salomon in Teaneck and concluded at Judge Sean M. Dillon's former law firm located in Ramsey. He worked closely beside Sean and was loved and respected by all who knew him.
An active man throughout his life, he was a tennis enthusiast and shared that by becoming the assistant coach of the Paramus High School's Boys tennis team, coaching well into his 80's. Giles also enjoyed cooking, reading and discussions on politics. A kindhearted and generous man who will be thought of often. He will be remembered fondly wearing his beloved cowboy hat, loved by his family.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday January 13, 2023, 10 am at St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church, 169 Fairmount Road, Ridgewood, NJ. Inurnment to follow at the George Washington Memorial Park, 234 Paramus Road, Paramus, NJ.
